Notification Year: 1993

Venkitta Thevar temple, located close to the ruins of an old fort at Kottakkal, is a specimen of the indigenous style of temple architecture of the 19th century. This temple is of dwitala vimana. The garbhagriha and mukhamandapa are square in shape. The chief deity is Lord Siva, along with Parvathi. The murals on the walls of the garbhagriha and magnificent wood carvings on the griva (neck of the superstructure) envisage the uniqueness of craftsmanship. The inscription on the southern side of the shrine shows that the murals were completed in 1053 M.E., i.e., 1878 C.E.
