Museums could be described as the depositories of the gems of history, whether ancient or modern, that time has entrusted to us for safekeeping. Worldwide, museums are undergoing fundamental and timely transformation. They are already turning into storehouses of knowledge. The State Archaeology Department has 17 museums under its care, guiding visitors to the great history and culture of Kerala through priceless artefacts, historical relics etc. The diverse galleries of these museums house a vast collection of objects ranging from ancient coins, stone sculptures, metal sculptures, armour, ancient weapons, art forms and Nannangadis to traditional life implements associated with various communities. Apart from this, the museums of the Department of Archaeology also have exhibits that shed light on regional history.
