District Heritage Museum, Idukki


The District Heritage Museum at Kuilimala, Idukki, is a place, where the minds of the visitors are led on a pilgrimage to the historical features of Idukki district, which is rich with remains of the Megalithic age. The features and history of Idukki are depicted here. The Heritage Museum has been envisaged by the Department of Archaeology as a place to preserve the rich and diverse heritage of Idukki for future generations. Here, you can see the story of Idukki from ancient to modern times. Historical remains, including those collected from the district with public participation, are arranged in ten galleries here. The model of Idukki Dam, Moolamattam Powerhouse, etc., its construction history, old pictures, the story and way of life of Idukki ruled by many dynasties, etc. can be seen in 'Idukki in History'. 'Plantations and Labour Lives', which tells the story of the plantation region of the district, 'Tourists' Idukki' explaining the tourism features of the district, 'Immigration in Idukki' tells the history of immigration in Idukki, 'Tribal Life in Idukki' talks about the unique tribal cultures, including their life implements and ornaments. You can also see here the pictures of Muniyaras in Marayur, Herostones, etc.
