Hill Palace Museum, Thrippunithura


The largest museum in Kerala, Hill palace Archaeological Museum Thrippunithura, offers visual ecstasy to the visitors. Established in 1984 under the Department of Archaeology, this museum was opened to the public in 1986 at the Kanakakunnu Kottaram (Hill palace) in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam, which was the seat of the Perumpadappu Swaroopam (Cochin Royal Dynasty). Beautiful gardens with fountains and steps, biodiversity from rare herbs to rare trees, grand palaces with carved wooden staircases, wide glass windows and rare tiled floors, gallery’s exhibiting history of Kochi Kingdom, informations related to dynasty, its royal jewelry, 1.75 kg gold jeweled crown, royal throne, palace furniture, chariots, rare portraits of kings, metal-wood-stone sculptures, inscriptions, ancient coins, rare ivory objects, Chinese pottery, Megalithic remains, models of Indus Valley culture remains, chitravadhakkude and weapons, ancient Kerala architectural style ettukettu and Heritage Museum, the first lift in Kerala –a wide visual feast of curiosities awaits the visitors here. The evolution of the Kochi kingdom and the life of the royal family await visitors here.

The Cabinet Hall, where the royal audience had been taken place, didn't lose its majesty even today. Here, we can have a close look at the architectural plan of palace structures, its significance, the aerial view, the fauna and flora of the palace premises, Kochi's forts, other palaces, places of worship and ancient travel routes. Exhibits that evoke the nostalgia of a bygone era await visitors at the Heritage Museum, arranged in the old ettukettu. Facilities like a children's park and ample parking are also available at Hill palace.
