Village: Mallappuzhasseri

Taluk: Kozhencherry

Notification Year: 2018

The centuries-old Vazhuvelil Tharavadu is located near the Thiruvaranmula temple, in Pathanamthitta district. It is a unique example of Ekasala style of building in Kerala architecture. Except for the basement, the majority of the rest parts are made of wood. The building has a very high foundation above ground level. Walls are made of very thick wood, and they have a more than usual slanted roof. This Tharavadu is also famous for the birth of many eminent persons, including poet Sugathakumari, and because of its traditional connection with the Aranmula temple.
