Two synagogues, namely Kadavumbhagam and Thekkumbhagam, situated at Jew Street in Ernakulam, are the testimony to the past vibrant Jewish presence of this area. The Thekkumbhagam synagogue was originally built in 1580. The existing structure is a rebuilt one, from the 20th century. The azara or anteroom, leads to a spacious prayer hall, which is similar to other synagogues in Kerala. The prayer hall has a high ceiling and large windows.
