The St. Sebastian Church, Thoppumpady, Ernakulam, is one of the oldest churches in the ancient diocese of Cochin, which is the first Latin diocese in Kerala. Historical documents state that the St. Sebastian church was established by renovating the old church of St. James, which stood here during the 16th century. The materials employed in the construction of the church are mainly laterite and wood. The walls were built with large laterite blocks measuring nearly 1 metre, using lime as mortar, which were then plastered with lime plaster. The altar facing Vembanad Lake is domical in shape.
