St. John's Church in Barnassery, Kannur, was established in 1805 when the directors of the East India Company gave permission to build places of worship. The structure of the building was very simple at the time of its construction. Later, wings or transepts were built, giving the church a cross shape. The church has a simple altar and a stone-paved floor. The ceiling, which is about forty feet high, is made of wood. Another feature of this church is the commemorative plaques found on its walls.
