The St. George Church, better known as Puthanpally, at Varappuzha was constructed in 1788 on land donated by Edappally Parish. At that time, this place was an important trading centre mainly inhabited by Christians. The old church has been renovated many times over the years but without affecting its heritage value. The central seminary was attached to this church from 1866 to 1932. The church was renovated by the Department of Archaeology in 2012.
