The Saraswathivilasam Palace was built mainly for the literary activities of the literary giant, Kerala Varma Valiya Koyi Thampuran, who was popularly known as 'Kerala Kalidasan'. This palace, situated on the western side of the SreePadmanabha Swamy Temple, is an amalgamation of traditional Kerala architectural style and the Western style of architecture. Built in the last quarter of the 19th century, this palace has some later additions. The porch and the veranda on the second floor were added in the 1930s. The arch doors and windows add more attraction to this mansion. The wooden ceiling and high walls are the other notable features of this edifice.
