Povval Fort was built by the Nayakas of Ikkeri in the 17th century. This fortress forms a quadrangle with eight round bastions, ramparts, battlements and deep moat with a solitary entrance. The fort was built with laterite boulders using sand and clay as binding mediums. There is no watchtower adjunct to it. There are embrasures in the ramparts for placing guns. There were many buildings inside the fort. Apart from the other buildings, there is a small Hanuman temple inside the fort. The Department of Archaeology scientifically conserved the fort in 2006.
