Post holes, Anakkara

Village: Anakkara

Taluk: Pattambi

GPS Coordinates: 10° 81’ 63.6” N 76° 03’ 79.8” E

Notification Year: 2015

The post holes associated with megalithic monuments at Anakkara are very unique. This is the only site of this kind in Kerala found so far. The concentration of post holes is on the western side of the hilltop, at the south of the megalithic monuments. Narrow channels are also cut into the rock surface. Some archaeologists opined that the post holes would have supported platforms on which bodies were laid for maceration, before the bones could be collected and deposited along with other burial goods inside the monuments.
