Notification Year: 2007

Vazhiyambalams were the wayside halts where bone-weary travellers sought rest and shelter during the bygone era. There are numerous such types of Kallambalams in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts. The vazhiyambalam at Perettil is a rectangular structure built exclusively with granite stones. This structure consists of three cells and a veranda. On the eastern side of the vazhiyambalam, there is a chumaduthangi or athani (two vertical stones topped by a horizontal one) where people unload the weight they carried on their heads.
