Panniyoor Varahamurthy Temple

Panniyoor is one of the 32 Brahmin settlements in Kerala mentioned in the Keralolpathi. The Varhamurthy temple at Panniyur, Anakkara is the gramakshetra of this settlement. This temple complex comprises of two srikovils, mandapas, vathilmadom, valiyabalikkallu, theerthakulam etc. The Varahamurthy temple has sandhara type dwithala srikovil with tiled roof. The walls are built in laterite. Moldings of the granite adhishtana are padukam, jagathi, vrittakumudam, galam and pati. The legendary 'Panniyurthura' is located just to the north of the temple. This temple has yielded a Vettezhuthu inscription of the early mediaeval period.
