Nilapadu Thara or Manithara was a venue for the Mamankam Festival. There had been bitter battles between Samoothiri and Vellattiri or Valluvakkonathiri over the right to conduct the event. On the last day of Mamankam, the Zamorin came in procession to the Manithara. At that time, the Chavers (suicide squads) sent by Vellattiri would try to assassinate him. It is said that in 1766, during the last Mamankam, the Zamorin had a narrow escape from a 16-year-old Chaver. The Nilapaduthara is a square platform built entirely with laterite stones.
