Notification Year: 1937

Travancore Lines, known as Netumkota, pass through Mukundapuram (now Chalakudy-Kodungallur) taluk in Thrissur district. This fort was built by Dharmaraja Kartika Thirunal, the king of Travancore, with the support and permission of the Kochi Kingdom. In 1761, an alliance was formed between Kochi and Travancore to defend against Mysore, their common enemy. Netumkota was built as part of the alliance. Hyder Ali and Tipu, who were the Sultans of Mysore, attacked here. Tipu made his last attack on the strategic Konur fort, which is part of the Netumkota. The western end of Netumkota is known as Krishnan Kota.
