Neeramankara Temple

Notification Year: 1940

The Neeramankara Temple, Nemam is a circular sandhara-type shrine built of granite dating back to the 14th century C.E. The garbhagriha of the temple is square in plan, but its griva and sikhara, made of bricks, are octagonal in form. The sikhara has nasikas enclosing human faces on all eight sides. The central shrine contains a Sivalinga made of laterite. The nalambalam has fallen down, and the namskaramandapam is represented by a granite base installed in front of the garbhagriha. The adhishtana of the srikovil has five moldings, such as upana, jagathi,kumuda, kantha, and pattika. Vattezhuthu inscriptions dating back to the 12th century are seen on the adhishtana of the temple.
