Megalithic Burial Site, Poothamkara

Notification Year: 1963

The Megalithic Cist Burial Site at Poothamkara was excavated under the leadership of the Director of the Department of Archaeology of the erstwhile state of Travancore in 1938. This monument includes the burial sites at Kadamankuzhi Estate, PongaparaNirappu, and KadiyarampunnaNirappu. The vertical slabs of the cists encountered here are placed in a swasthika pattern. Black and red wares and iron implements were excavated from one of the cists. The area is now inside the Kodumon Rubber Estate, managed by the Plantation Corporation. Four cists are kept intact.
