Manikkinar

Village: Thirunavaya

Taluk: Tirur

GPS Coordinates: 10° 51’ 49.3” N 75° 58’ 12.2” E

Notification Year: 2007

Manikkinar is a laterite well located very near Nilapaduthara. This well had a close association with the Mamamkam Festival. It is believed that the corpses of the Chavers were customarily kicked by elephants as far as the brink of the well and dumped in this well. But no conclusive evidence has been obtained from the site so far. The Department of Archaeology conducted an excavation inside the Manikkinar in 2007. The steps of the Manikkinar were built with dressed laterite stones. There is a sloped ramp with a few steps on the western side of this circular well.
