Mangaladevi temple is one of the oldest structural temples in Kerala, dating back to the 9th century C.E. This temple in ruins, made exclusively with dressed granite stones, is located atop a hill inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Idukki District. This temple complex comprises four shrines of different sizes and orientations, confined to a well-defined enclosure wall. The entrance to the temple is from the north through a gopura. Among the four temples in the precincts, the larger one facing the east has a covered garbhagriha. The main idol inside the Sanctum sanctorum is missing. There is a granite idol of Ganesa in the south-east corner. Three inscriptions in Tamil language and script are found here.
