GPS Coordinates: 10° 10’ 02.8” N 76° 14’ 58.9” E

Kottayil Kovilakam at Chendamangalam is the palace site of the Raja of Villarvattath, one of the Kshatriya chieftains of the 14th century who held sway over the island of Chendamangalam and the neighbouring sea-coasts. The site around the old kitchen well of the palace, the only remnant that is to be seen now, was declared protected by the Government of Cochin in 1936. The ruins of the Vaippikkotta Seminary lie at a distance of two furlongs from the site of the palace. A Vishnu temple is located on the same hill where the kovilakam resided. The Jewish cemetery of the Chendamangalam Jews is preserved in the valley of this hillock.
