Kandonthar Jail was a detention centre during British rule. It is located in Panapuzha village in Kannur district. This jail was established as part of a Cutcherry by the British. The south-facing building, made of laterite, has a veranda, a large room, and a lockup room. This over a century-old building is a historical monument to the freedom struggle of the Kandonthar region.
