Kadavumbhagam Synagogue

Village: Mattancherry

Taluk: Kochi

GPS Coordinates:

Notification Year: 2016

Kadavumbhagam Synagogue, also known as Karutha Juthapalli, is located in Mattancherry in Ernakulam district. This place of worship was built with the permission of the Raja of Kochi by a sect known as black Jews. The construction of the synagogue is due to the social circumstances that arose among the Jews who shifted their headquarters from Kodungallur to Kochi.
Apart from being a place of worship, this synagogue was also a great building with many murals depicting the history of the Jews. When the Jewish community that worshipped in it went back to Israel, they took many valuables like carvings, woodwork, etc. Despite this, the glory and importance of this synagogue remain intact even now.
