Dr. Palpu was a social reformer and one of the legendary figures of the Renaissance movement that started in the pre-independence days. He was a contemporary and follower of Sree Narayana Guru. Dr.Palpu was the third signatory to the Malayali Memorial (1891), a mass petition signed by 10038 people submitted before Sree Mulam Thirunal, the King of Travancore, which marked the beginning of the united social effort in the state to press the demands of the backward classes. He was born on November 2, 1863, in Thiruvananthapuram. The small, single storey house where he was born has been declared a protected monument by the Department.
