Chettuva Fort

The Chettuva fort or William fort was constructed by the Dutch in 1714. The fort, which spreads across 5 acres of land, was built entirely with laterite blocks and lime mortar. It has a deep moat around it. Chettuva fort was captured and recaptured many times by the British Empire, Dutch East India Company, Rajas of Mysore, Zamorin of Calicut and the Rajas of Cochin. The Department of Archaeology has conducted excavations in this fort and brought to light some laterite structures.
