Village: Chendamangalam

Taluk: Paravur

GPS Coordinates: 10° 10’ 08.0” N 76° 14’ 53.8” E

Notification Year: 1936

A Hebrew record written on a granite slab standing in front of the synagogue at Chendamangalam was reported by P.Anujan Achan in 1103 M.E. (1928 C.E.). This inscription shows that the synagogue was built in 1615, and the expenditure was met by David Gasteline, one of the leaders of the Jews. Chendamangalam Synagogue follows the pattern of other Kerala synagogues. The synagogue has a majestic altar, which stands out for its intricate artwork. The ceiling of the high roof has been embellished with coloured patterns. A beautifully carved wooden balcony is also worth mentioning.
