Cave at Maniyoor


Village: Maniyoor

Taluk: Vatakara

GPS Coordinates: 11° 10’ 41.4” N 75° 50’ 05.1” E

Notification Year: 2003

The cave at Maniyoor is a typical rock-cut tomb of the Megalithic Age. The entrance of the cave has carved frame decoration. The small entrance opening measures 45 cm x 30 cm in height and width, respectively. The ceiling of the cave is domical in shape and has a height of 1 metre. A round pillar carved in laterite is seen at the centre. A laterite bench is also carved in the north-eastern corner. The inner diametre of the cave is 2 metres. Black and red wares and iron implements are discovered in the cave.
