Budha Image, Bharanikkavu

Notification Year: 1941

The image of Buddha installed in a small mandapa in front of the Bharanikkavu Devi Temple, Kattanam, is an elegantly executed idol. The idol is in well-preserved state. The total height of this granite image, including pedestal is about two feet. The upper garment, especially the many folded piece passing over the left shoulder and lying flat on the chest, is clearly visible. The usual characteristic features of the Budha images discovered so far from Kerala, viz., ushnisha and jwala, are present in this image.
