Bastion Bungalow, Fort Kochi, was constructed by the Dutch on top of the northernmost bastion of the Cochin fort (Manuel Fort) in the last quarter of the 17th century. The Manuel fort was constructed by the Portuguese in 1505 with many bastions, watch towers and ramparts. The Dutch ceded the fort in 1663. They reduced the fort to a minimum. Later, the fort was taken over by the English towards the end of the 18th century. By this time, most of the fort had been lost, except for the northernmost bastion. Bastion Bungalow was used as a residential building during the British period. Now the bungalow has been converted to the District Heritage Museum, Ernakulam.
