John Ernest Henxleden, popularly known as Arnos Pathiri, was one of the most celebrated missionaries who dedicated his life to enrich and propagate Malayalam language and literature. He was born at Ostercappeln in north-western Germany and reached Kerala in  1700 C.E. The residence of Arnose Pathiri, located on the west side of St. Francis Xavier Forane Church in Veloor, is a two storey padippura of the church, of that time. The church was constructed in 1724. This church is a true specimen of the Indo-European style of architecture. The wooden ceiling supported by huge wooden beams, the ancient altar and the murals found here deserve special mention.
