Ariyannoor Temple


Village: Aloor Group Mattam

Taluk: Thalappilly

GPS Coordinates: 10° 42’ 43.1” N 75° 04’ 55.9” E

Notification Year: 1936

The Ariyannoor Temple, located on a small hillock, dates back to the 14th century C.E. The main deity, Hari Kanyaka, is facing the east. This dwithala vimana temple has a granite adhishtana and ornate walls made of laterite. A traditional namaskaramandapam, nalambalam, thidappalli, balikkalppura are also present. The mural paintings portrayed on the walls of the shrine are completely lost. The sculptures around the srikovil are also in ruin. Its sub shrines are Ganapathy, Ayyappan and Bhadrakali. Some wooden carvings are on the ceiling of the namaskaramandapam. A basement of a gopuram (gateway) is also seen on the western side.
