Taluk: Hosdurg

GPS Coordinates: 12° 30’ 90.9” N 76° 09’ 43.9” E

Notification Year: 2006

Puthiya Kotta or Hosdurg was constructed by Somashekara Nayaka, who belonged to the Keladi Nayakas of Ikkeri, during 18th century. The name Hosdurg is derived from two Kannada words: 'Hosa' means 'new' and 'Durg' means 'fort'. Also known as Kanhangad Fort, the fort of Hosdurg has round ramparts and fortifications that spread over an area of 2 acres. The entire fortification was built with dressed laterite stones. A massive (interior) watch tower, square in structure with a ramp, stands on the south-eastern side inside the fortification. The fort premises are now being used for several public offices, residential buildings and a school.
