Pallippuram Fort, known as 'Ayakkotta' or 'Alikkotta', was constructed by the Portuguese in 1507. The remaining portion of the Pallippuram fort is a hexagonal structure. Inside the fort, the lowest floor is raised to a height of 5 feet above ground level. Underneath this platform, opens out a small cellar. The cellar itself is 4 feet in height and 7 feet square. It appears to have served to store gun powder. Each face of the fort has three embrasures. The materials employed in the construction of the fort are laterite, granite, and wood. The walls are thickly plastered with chunam.
