The Orthodox Theological Seminary Kottayam, popularly known as the Old Seminary (Pazhaya Seminary), is a traditional nalukettu with a central courtyard. The construction of the seminary started in 1813 and was completed by 1815. The queen of Travancore, Gowri Parvathy Bhai, granted the tax-free 16-acre property, Rs 20,000, and the necessary timber for construction. Initially called Cottayam College, the seminary was not exclusively meant for priest training. It was a seat of English general education in the State of Travancore.
